PhotoFiltre Studio X 10.9.2 (shareware. 29 Euros, free 30-day trial);
PhotoFiltre
7.2.1 (free)
photofiltrer.com (shareware: www.photofiltre-studio.com/download-en.htm; freeware: www.photofiltre e-studio.com/pf7-en.htm)
B Photofiltre is a well-regarded French shareware package, with an earlier version available at no cost to individuals, educators, and nonprofit . (Note that the freeware version does not offer layering capability.) This is a general photo editor application featuring a broad selection of post-processing tools. Oddly, it lacks photo dodging and burning tools for local application of image area brightening or darkening—a significant omission in an othe wise excellent package.
The PhotoFiltre site hosts a nice selection of free third-party add-ons, most of them contributed by users. The English-language version of the program is well and clearly presented, with an elegant and intuitive interface. It offers both menu and keystroke shortcut command approaches, detailed online help, and easy access from within the editor to the main website, user discussion forum, and video tutorials.
The online user forum reflects PhotoFiltre’s broad international user community, with many posted offers by users willing to help language-challenged English speakers. Unfortunately, much of the text documentation and user help is available only in French, although browser users are pointed to Google translation tools.
